Dragin to Super Dragin pump
Written by Robert Whittle

Vacteck's head venturi engineer, Paul Finster, developed the first Dragin pump in 1988. Contrary to popular belief it was not named the Dragin as a drag - in pump, but after a particular individual who had a dragon like character. It was a simple yet effective coolant vacuum pump. Green in colour and similar in shape to a brick. It looked very unlike a pump but worked a treat. Since then there have been many versions of the Dragin pump and many improvements. Some of the design flaws have been slowly ironed out until now in 2008 Vacteck has released the latest Dragin pump range called the Super Dragins. Powerful, efficent users of compressed air, quieter than previous models and all except the economy version are two pumps in one. They can recover fluid and spills. The unique combination of air flow and vacuum has made these pumps a real must have for the factory workshop.

The original Dragin pump shown here was effective in recovering coolant and was also very useful if the truck drove over it.

The slimline Dragin pump shown here was a vast improvement but still had a poor inner manifold design made from hardened plastic that allowed the air entry nipple to be crossthreaded.

Vacteck's Fastpump 357 with a new inner manifold made from aircraft grade metal meant no more crossthreading the air entry port and the improved design meant more venturi power.

The 2008 Super Dragin has seen even further improvements.A quieter footprint due to a new improved sound baffle, redesigned inner manifold allows greater vacuum thrust and the new colour scheme gives the pump a modern look.
